Summary

I don't know whether it was because I recently played Metroid Prime but Metroid Other M is a flawed game and a massive disappointment for fans of the series. The game fails to capture the sense of isolation and exploration known from the series and everything about it feels like it's on autopilot.

Firstly the games story involves Samus investigating a distress call from a derelict bottle ship. Upon arriving she bumps into her Galactic Federation buddies from the past and teams up with them to find out what was happening on this ship.

The story is decent in places but also incredibly cheesy in others, thanks to flat voice acting and a dodgy script. I personally kept playing because there was an interesting plot involving one of the Galactic Federation troops being a traitor and wiping out the team. Unfortunately this plot isn't really resolved by the end.

In terms of fleshing out Samus character, it was a hit and miss affair. I was fine with most of it but some completely ridiculous moments such as Samus crying with fear when encountering Ridley I disliked. She's killed Ridley four times already by this point. Why does she act this way now?

Gameplay-wise, Metroid Other M takes all the exploration and sense of isolation you loved about the series, and tosses it out the airlock. Instead you find yourself being held by the hand throughout the entire adventure, on route to your next boss fight.

You see combat plays a much larger role in this game and Samus can execute a number of attack moves to defeat her opponents. Unfortunately while the combat can be fun, it sometimes feels too automatic. The good news is that the game doesn't use quick time events.

However there is one thing that makes combat more frustrating then it should be and that is the first person aiming. You see most bosses require switching between the third and first person viewpoints and why this should be easy, it isn't.

When in first person view, Samus freezes on the spot, meaning that if a projectile is coming towards you, you have to switch to third person view and dodge it, before going back to first person to fire a missile. It's needlessly frustrating, especially in the more intense boss encounters.

The controls work well for the most part. Samus controls surprisingly well in a 3D space using the D-pad and jumping and shooting is quick and responsive. However switching between third and first person can be tedious and holding the wii remote to reload missiles is annoying.

Graphically Metroid Other M is a beautiful looking game. The FMV cut scenes are absolutely amazing and the in-game graphics are polished, with fluid character animations, although the lip-syncing is mostly poor.

The environments are fairly repetitive and safe, with typical station, lava, ice and swamp areas. Playing this game made me admire Retro Studios terrific art design and vibrant alien worlds all the more.

Finally the music fits their appropriate environments but it's not very remember able and the English voice acting is typical from a Japanese developed game. Contemporary but ultimately failing to give the dramatic scenes the emotional punch required.

Overall Metroid Other M is a disappointment. The game pales in comparison to Retro's Prime Trilogy but even judged on its own merits, it still falls short on quality. If you like the Metroid series, chances are you'll play it, have some fun and never play it again.

If you don't like the Metroid series, you'll probably enjoy it.

Brilliant game and had lots of thinking for you.

Summary

The game starts of with Samus training in a room. After all that she enters her ship and while she is flying she gets a distress call from a Bottle ship. She goes inside and she meets old freinds and then she starts helping them and goes on and they start to die one bye one and there will be Ridley Samus nemesis and fights it and wins. She finds missile tanks and other type of stuff to help her on her journey.Adam is her captin for the moment and guides her and tells her when she can use her wepons then when he tells you then you can keep using them when you want. Then Samus best friend risks his life to save her from Ridley and falls into lava.Adam risks his life to stop the Bottle ship or something in the control room. And there is a deleter as Samus likes to call but I call the person a traitor and the deleter kills some of your friends. In the end you find out that a robot that looks like a human being and takes the name of her creator MB Madaline Bergman and in the end the boss is the robot and Samus goes back before the Bottle ship explodes and get Adams helmet for a memory and then the Bottle ship is exploding then you don't have your suit cause Samus took it of when taking the helmet.and you have five minutes to get out of the Bottle ship.

do NOT compare this to pokemon! Different games that involve raising monsters.

Summary

Ok so this is yet another version of the past Dragon Warrior Monsters where your goal was to be the best Monster Master and breed every possible monster. That hasn't changed much at all, you still want to be the best in the monster scout challenge and what a better way to do that than with strong monsters!

But what's this? To get strong monsters you need to synthesize, yet it seems that's an issue for some people. Perhaps because of the fact that when you "breed" called "synthesize" in the ds versions now, you don't keep your monsters. If you've played these series before you wouldn't complain about that since that's the point. You synthesize to get stronger monsters(increasing +), and/or different ones of the same rank.

Another "downside" may be the fact that this game doesn't have as many monsters as Dragon Quest Joker 2 Professional(only in Japan).

Aside from that, it does have a short storyline, but has PLENTY of postgame content such as a difficult extra boss that will have you synthesizing many times to get the perfect team to be able to survive those Frizz Crackers! The ability to test/have fun with your monster/s team/s while earning prizes on wifi, and more!

If you don't have wifi then this game will DEFINITELY not be as enjoyable, but you can still try to breed as many monsters as possible! Not to mention you can still play with your friends if they also have this game! You can even scout their monsters, which will come in handy later, since you WILL need 2 of a certain monster to be able to synthesize the last one, so you'll want a buddy at some point!

Some other minor bonuses that I noticed, include remixed versions of past songs from both dragon warrior and dragon quest games ahh nostalgia.

Now get to synthesizing!

Summary

After playing the first one I thought that it should'nt have a sequel because it would be to similar but this is actually way different than the first. The storylines fairly unique and the gameplay is less frustrating than it was before. Even after you beat the game you can still do other things including stuff that actually has to do with the story. Of course there's chances to catch monsters you did'nt get before but there's also some new monsters in certain places.
The only real complaints I have is that they removed the suggested option for synthesis which used to make it really simple to find the best combo. Also it seems like there's a serious lack of negative monsters but it might just be me lol. Anyway the game is certainly enjoyable and anyone who likes monster collecting games should check it out.
